I arrived in Rexburg yesterday for dress rehearsal of the oratorio I wrote over twenty years ago, with my friends Kurt Bestor and Mark Robinette. My expectations were not high, though I was pretty excited to revisit old words and music that had flowed in my younger days. The last time we had done this was with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, so its understandable that the musicians and singers from a little Idaho College town were not automatically on the top of the pro-list. But I was wrong! These folks are true musicians, skilled, and full of passion and goodness, which is the perfect vehicle for a religious oratorio.
Our first show for an audience is tonight. We are all a little jittery, because of some recent events that would topple other shows. But here we are, getting set to raise the rafters of the glorious Rexburg Tabernacle.
7:30 pm tonight, November 3rd. And again Monday night, November 7th.
Come see us, and hear a worthy tale retold.
Out thanks to Jed Platt and the Rexburg Arts Council for the vision, the guts and the able hands that put this together.
